Record Book Workshop

Meet at Becky's house to work on your Record Book or ask questions about Record Books on July 25th 2 - 5 pm.

Here's the latest from Lisa Ryder, Superintendent of Record Books, about Record Books:

1. Level one and Level 2 Judging forms - use this to help the kids.
2. Guidelines for the C0934 format - very well written - thank you Kathy Watson.
3. Record Book Enrollment form - this must be filled out completely and turned in with the Record Book. You may put it inside the book in the front pocket.

The outside of the members record book, the cover, must include the members Name, Club Name, Level (Junior, Int. Senior) and Year 2008-2009. It needs to include a picture.

Books must be turned in by 10:00 on August 1st. We will be accepting books Monday July 27 thru Friday July 31 at the 4-H office. We will also be accepting books on Saturday August 1st from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. We will begin judging at 10:15 on Saturday August 1st. at the Eagles Nest.

Be sure to complete your Animal Entry, Record Book and Educational Display by the deadlines for Fair.

July 15th Animal Entries are due to your animal Superintendent.
August 1st Record Books are due at Fair.
August 21st Educational Displays are due at Fair.

If you are planning to submit at Table Display at Fair you will need to get permission from the Educational Display Superintendent (Toni Blanchard – 360-692-3768) before August 1st.

4th of July Parade + Street Fair Booth

Please email Kaitlyn, our current President, if you would like to help decorate the parade float, or take a shift in the 4-H Booth at the Street Fair. Here is a note from Kaitlyn regarding the 4th of July activities and request for help:

Hey 4-Hers!
I’m trying to organize people to help man the 4-H booth during the 4th of July parade. I would like to have at least one representative from each project present at some time of the day, for about half an hour to an hour, depending on how many people volunteer. So, it would be much appreciated if everyone could pick someone from their project to hang out at the booth for a while. If the person who volunteers is under twelve/new to 4-H/a little shy, a parent or older teen is welcome to come help them out. Multiple people would be awesome too. So, when each project picks its representatives, please email me at shmee_is_me@hotmail.com with the names, the projects and the times that the representatives are available. I will type up a schedule and send it as soon as everyone applies. I will be at the booth most of the day, so no one will have to do it on their own. If anyone would like to bring a small animal (cavy, rabbit, chicken-any bigger, please check with me first) or a craft project that has been done, that might be fun too. Drop-ins are welcome, but I’d really appreciate some people who will be there for sure.
Also, it would be really nice if each project could take photos of their activities and make a board to post in the booth. It would go a long ways towards decorating the space.
Also, please note that on the 3rd of July, we will be decorating the float for the parade at the Melendez household, between 1pm and 3pm. Anyone is welcome, especially if they have green or white butcher paper!

County Fair Record Book Information

This is from Lisa Ryder, the Superintendent for Record Books at the Kitsap County Fair:

We will be accepting books Monday July 27 thru Friday July 31 at the 4-H
office. We will also be accepting books on Saturday August 1st from
8:00 am to 10:00 am. We will begin judging at 10:15 on Saturday August
1st at the Eagles Nest.

Please make sure that all books are turned in with the cover completely filled out and the Kitsap County Fair entry form completely filled in.
Pauline Salo will apply for the position of Record Book Superintendent after this year’s judging is complete. She will work with me through this season. I continue to hear from kids how grateful they are that they did their record books. The books are very helpful to the kids when they are doing college or job applications. We wouldn’t be able to have such successful record books without all of you. If anyone is interested in assisting with Record Books or judging, please contact Lisa or Kathy.

A few reminders:
1. Level one books are for grades 3 and 4, Level two for 5th grade and
above.
2. The Kitsap County Record, Level 2 record book will not be accepted
after this year. The Washington State Record C0934 will continue to be
available.
3. Please make sure your members are using the correct add sheets. The
complete list is posted on the web site. The Kitsap County add sheets
for Archery and Rabbits (this is for those who want a word document) are
approved and will be added to the web site. The add sheets for Llamas and Goats, are being updated. They will be posted on the web site. You may contact me for more information. lisary@myuw.net
4. CHANGE: All record books shall have a tab labeled with the project name. Within this tab the Project Record, Project Journal, Project Highlights, Add Sheets, and Photo Page/4-H Memories should be included.
The calendar will still be separate and may iprojects if you are doing a multiple project book. Yes this means you may have a Photo Page/4-H Memories page for each project. This will be
limited to two double sided pages per project.
5. Project Record and Project Highlights should be in complete sentences in all level 2 books.
6. Each club needs to have their own year end agreement using the example in the Record book.
7. All animal projects must list in their Journal, Fed and Watered Daily. One listing per month of food and water in the Journal is sufficient.
8. Record books may be turned in for County Fair in any binder the student would like, however it must be no larger than a 2” bound 3 ring binder. It must also have the ability to open flat for display purposes.

End of Year Club Picnic

Our end of year Club Picnic will be held at the Battle Point Park picnic shelter on June 4th. Set up will start at 5:30 pm with a potluck picnic starting at 6:00 pm. We will have elections for new Teen Officers, and games.

Potluck assignment according to club member's last names:
A - H: salads
I - M: desserts
N - Z: drinks

Dishes and pizzas will be provided by the club.
Please RSVP your Club Leader if you are coming or not so we know how many pizzas to order.

4-H Campship Essay Contest

If you are planning to go to Twin Lakes 4-H Camp this summer you can apply for the Campship Essay Contest and receive your camp session for free if you win. In order to apply Kelly Fisk, from the Kitsap County 4-H Office, has sent the following requirements. Send your essay to the 4-H Office by before the April 30th deadline.

To apply for the campship essay contest, simply have the member complete a one-page essay on:

1. Why do you want to attend camp?
2. What do you think you'll gain from this experience?

Then just mail it to the 4-H office (Kitsap County Extension , 345 Sixth Street, Ste. 550, Bremerton, WA 98337-1874) and where it will be read, reviewed and send it on to the committee to make final selections.

4-H Petting Zoo at Easter Egg Hunt

Each year our club offers a petting zoo for the Waterfront Park Easter Egg Hunt participants to see farm animals up close and personal. This year the Hunt is on April 11th. Please arrive by 9:50 am to set up for our visitors. Please bring your animal in a carrying cage along with a chair to sit in.

Thanks for letting lots of young children come to see your sweet animals.

Public Presentations

Public Presentations will be on March 20th, 2:00 - 7:00 pm, and on March 21st, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. They will be at the Faith Fellowship Church, 6251 NW Newberry Hill Road, in Silverdale, one mile West of Highway 3, towards Seabeck. You must register ahead of time at our March 5th Club Meeting. If you aren't able to attend the Club Meeting and want to give a Public Presentation you will need to email your club leader (click here) to register.

From Tracy Coolbaugh, Public Presentation Committee Chair:
The last couple of years there were MANY presentations given that were under time. Word had gotten out that there is no longer a deduction for being under time. That is NOT correct. There IS a deduction for being under time, it is just not an automatic ribbon place dropping like it used to be. A high blue, slightly under time might still be a blue. A mid-blue could easily drop to a red ribbon for being under time.

Juniors: Minimum 3 minutes
Intermediates: Minimum 5 minutes
Seniors: Minimum 8 minutes
All levels: Maximum time 20 minutes.

Intermediates and Seniors doing Public Speaking (different from a public presentation, with no props): Minimum time 10 minutes

Volunteers are sought for judging and for clerking (7th grade and up). Email Tracy if you would like to volunteer at thecoolfamily@embarqmail.com .

Harvest Fair

Come join us at the Johnson Farm, off of Fletcher Bay Road, for the annual Harvest Fair on September 28th from 11 am - 4 pm. Hare Raisers etc. will have lots of fun activities for the whole family. Our usual booths include face painting, play with your food, petting zoo, and the fishing pond. Your project leaders will contact you for help on this fun day. See you there!

Rabbit + Cavy Barn Cleaning

The Rabbit + Cavy Barn Cleaning prior to Spring Fling will be on April 19th, 9 am until finished. Bring gloves, rags, buckets, brooms, scrub brushes and wear old clothes that you will get dirty. When you attend this barn cleaning it will count (as one) towards the two barn cleanings needed to participate in the County Fair.

Rabbit + Cavy Winter Clinic

Be sure to send in your enrollment form and consent form for the Winter Clinic. This is a great opportunity to learn lots of rabbit and cavy info from experts, practice showmanship before Spring Fling or the Bunny and Cavy Olympics, and make a carrying cage for your animal to take to meetings and shows. Don't miss it. Ask your leader if you need the forms. Postmark due date is January 18th.

Hare Raisers etc. Helps

So far Hare Raisers has raised $133.00 towards the Lewis County 4-H Flood Relief Account. If you missed the last club meeting and would like to help out 4-H families affected by the flooding (many animals drowned) please email us so we can include your contribution before sending off our club's donation to the Lewis County Extension office. Thanks to everyone for your generous donations!

Kitsap County Achievement Awards

The 2007 Kitsap County Achievement Awards Banquet will be held on November 16th from 6pm-9pm at the Silverdale Community Center, Evergreen Room.
From 6-7pm there will be Silent Auction, light food and beverages will be served at this time.
From 7-9pm will be the Program.
